India’s leading Mobile Service operator Idea Cellular has added a total of 2.45 million GSM subscribers which is the highest number of new mobile subscriber additions in the month of April 2011. Idea Cellular’s GSM subscriber base now reached 91.9 million, as per the COAI data.
Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) today released the GSM subscriber base for April 2011 and, quite expectantly, new additions continue at an average growth rate. The total 11.1 million new GSM subscribers being added in April’2011 at a monthly growth rate of 1.95% taking the all-India GSM cellular subscriber base to 580.65 million.
Among the GSM Mobile Service Operators, Vodafone Essar added added 2.40 million new customers, boosting its subscrinber base 136.9 million. Bharti Airtel notched up 2.41 million new subscribers during the month, taking its total base to 164.6 million. While India’s national telecom backbone and Pan India 3G Mobile service operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) added up 0.68 million new users in March-2011, taking its total subscriber base to 87.1 million.
Aircel increased its base by over 1.1 million customers to take its subscriber base to 55.9 million. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) added 14633 new users during the month, boosting its total base to 5.23 million at the end of April, 2011.
Uninor, one of the youngest GSM operators in India has added 1.51mn GSM subscriber while Videocon added 1, 34,399 subscribers and STel managed just 1,80,794 new subscribers from 5 circles. Etisalat DB/Cheers Mobile 2,37,026 added subscribers in 13 circles.
